▼a "This book is designed to address a significant need in public health education. While there are many graduate level textbooks available for courses in public health there are very few that address public health management and even fewer that comprehensively discuss public health organizations. One such book is Shi and Johnson's Public Health Administration, 3rd ed (formerly Novick and Morrow) which is very comprehensive, over 700 pages, and the most widely used textbook on this topic in graduate schools of public health. However, the Shi and Johnson book is much too advanced for undergraduate students and thus there is a deficit that needs to be addressed. There was one effort that made such an attempt, Essentials of Management and Leadership in Public Health by Burke and Friedman published in 2011. However, it did not adequately address the context (public health organizations) and thus was much more of a standard health administration book. As a result, undergraduate instructors have been hesitant to embrace it as a primary text. The book we propose does indeed combine the scope and context of public health while also addressing key management topics, processes, and emerging issues. Furthermore, the proposed book links its various chapters to core competencies that are increasingly expected by APHA and public health accrediting commissions. This is especially timely for undergraduate programs, many of which are newly established and seeking recognition concurrent with their desire to offer students learning resources in the form of textbooks that are written for that audience"--
